Berry crops play a significant role in meeting the growing demand for fruits and berries. Berry plants are exceptionally quick to bear fruit. Strawberries planted in early spring, with proper care and following agricultural guidelines, can give a good harvest in the first year. That's why garden strawberries are so popular with people.
Garden strawberry Fragaria *ananassa Duch includes up to 10,000 varieties which are known to date. In industry, 25-30 varieties are used, and in the West Siberian region, 23 varieties have been zoned.
In the SFSCA RAS laboratory, 120 varieties of garden strawberries of various ecological and geographical origins have been collected. These varieties were introduced and studied from 2014 to 2026 in the open field at the SFSCA RAS biological testing area.
The result of the research work is recommendations for farmers and amateur gardeners on how to grow garden strawberries. A patent has been obtained for a method of growing garden strawberries in the West Siberian region.
The collection is constantly being updated with new introduced varieties.
Varieties: Alexandrina, Alenushka, Anastasia, Anna, Duet, Darenka, Zarya, Orlets, Pervoklassnitsa, Rubinovy Kulon, Ruslan, Solnechnaya Polyanka, Festivalnaya, Feya, Elsanta, and Yunia Smids have been added to the Register of Breeding Achievements for Region 10.
The outcome of this research work is the continuous expansion of the strawberry collection, along with the evaluation of cultivars based on their adaptability, resistance to diseases and pests, responsiveness to agrotechnical practices, consistent high yields, uniform ripening, transportability, and flavor quality.
Varieties are categorized into early-maturing, medium-maturing, and late maturing types. Early-maturing: Zefir, Holiday, Estafeta, Festivalnaya, Festivalnaya Romashka, Alba, Suzy, Anastasia, Honey, Tsaritsa (D), Mara des Bois, Daroyal, Ballerina, Daryonka.
